You Can Become A Great Man No Matter What

Every Man Has Greatness Within Himself

The problem sometimes is learning how to bring it to life and develop it. It’s kind of like exercising. We all have muscles, but some men spend more time developing them than others. The ones who develop them tend to focus on reasons why to improve and grow them. And the ones who don’t develop them tend to focus on reasons why they can’t. They don’t have time, or they don’t have the energy, or they don’t have the money to join a gym, etc.

Whether you’re looking for a reason to improve or not to improve your life, you’ll find it.

Curtis Martin was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. He’s one of the best running backs to ever play the game. And he didn’t even want to play football. Football was his ‘escape’ from his HORRENDOUS home life. But Curtis didn’t let his circumstances keep him from becoming a great man. Becoming a great football player was just a bonus.

Watch Curtis’s speech now and I guarantee that it will make you a better man.

Make The Most Out of Your Ticket

I’ll never forget the first roller-coaster I saw that went upside down. I had been on several other rides, and I loved them. But for some reason, I just couldn’t get on that one that went upside down.  The anxiety was horrible and I remember almost getting physically sick. My cousins wanted me to and I wanted to, but I just couldn’t do it. However, numerous people kept boarding that roller-coaster and it kept right on going with or without me on it. And this time, it was without me.

Unlimited Rides

I’m not exactly sure when or where it was, or even how old I was when I finally got the courage to jump on one of those roller-coasters that went upside down. But once I road one there was no looking back. In fact, ever time I’ve gone to an amusement park since I’ve gotten there when they opened and stayed until the park closed down. And I try to go when it’s not peak season and the lines are short so I can ride the coasters as many times as possible.

Taking Full Advantage of My Ticket

I used to go to the State Fair when I was younger I would have to buy tickets for each ride. I could buy in bulk and get a discount and then each ride would cost ‘x’ amount of tickets. However, the amusement parks charge one price to get in the gates and you ride the rides as many times as you want. A much better deal.

One ticket and the good times begin.

If you’re an adrenaline junkie you run to get back in line. If you don’t get on the ride fast enough, the gate closes and it takes off without you because there are people strapped in and ready to go. You’ll have to wait for the next one.

Ticket to Life

You need to approach life in the same way. You’ve been given one ticket and you’re already on the ride. It’s not going to start at some point in the future when you’re finally ready and think you have everything in order. The train is moving. And

The train is moving. And

And unlike an amusement park ride, you have no idea how long this ride we call life is going to last. So don’t wait another second to start enjoying and making the most of it.

Uphill Battles

The first part of almost every roller-coaster is climbing the “big hill.” The gears lock in and there is clanking and crunching but that sucker makes it to the top. And as soon as it crests the peak it’s on. That baby starts down the first hill and the fear from climbing instantly turns into adrenaline. You start screaming and throwing your hands in the air while you’re smiling ear to ear. You blow through the twists and turns and go flying upside down so fast you don’t even hardly realize you’re upside down. You want this ride to last forever because you’re having so much fun.

Then It’s Over

But on a roller-coaster, you can get back in line and ride it again. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way. So start enjoying it now. Make the most out of every moment. Even the bad ones because they are usually just stepping stones or tests to get you to the good stuff. We all have uphill battles. That’s just part of life. But when you know what’s coming on the other side, all the fun and rewards, you’ll climb that hill before you know it.

You have your ticket and the ride, your life, is in motion. It’s not stopping for anything but you’re the one who’s in control. Make the most of it.

Enjoy the ride.

Pushing Forward When You Want to Pull Back

Have you ever flown or ridden on a helicopter? I think you would agree that they’re pretty amazing machines if you think about what they are capable of. They’re basically a bubble shaped body with two to seven blades on top, rotating at thousands of rpms per minute, that lift, direct and even hold the body at a stall in the air. They’re pretty incredible machines if you think about it. Another thing, even if you’ve only seen helicopters on tv, is that they’re pretty loud.

But this isn’t about the function and design of helicopters. The helicopter is just the tool used for the story. Because when you here the story I’m about to tell, you’ll understand.

Mayday Mayday Mayday

I was at a seminar several years back and Robert Kiyosaki was one of the guest speakers. You may be familiar with his book, Rich Dad Poor Dad. If you’re not, I highly suggest you go grab a copy. Before Robert Kiyosaki became a successful businessman, he served in the United States Military. I believe he was a Marine.

Thank you for your service Robert.

When he was in the military, he was a helicopter pilot. And during his talk, he told us about an event that no one ever wants to experience. Even a tough United States Marine. They were hovering in the helicopter when suddenly the engine died.

It quit running.

Silence.

And silence isn’t something you want when you’re in a helicopter.

Robert went on to tell us that after he announced “mayday, mayday, mayday,” in his best high school girl voice, that he pushed the control stick forward… because that’s what he was trained to do. He said your instinct is to pull back on the stick but that’s the last thing you want to do. It will cause an uncontrolled fall and end worse than your other option. So, he pushed the control stick forward and pointed the nose towards the water below. And right before he hit the water, he pulled back and landed as softly as possible.

Don’t ask me how the mechanics work of a helicopter. Especially one with no working engine. I just know this is how Robert told the story and I believe him.

Start Pushing Forward

So how does this relate to you?

Robert and his co-pilot were sitting there in their comfort zone hovering above the water and enjoying the view when things suddenly went wrong.

Very wrong.

But he did what he was trained to do, he pushed forward and they survived.

Now is the time of year when lots of people are making resolutions to change their lives. They tell themselves that they’re going to make career changes(something I need to do), or lose weight, or get more fit, or make more money, or move to another home, or find ‘the one’ for them. And they come out of the gate with a lot of enthusiasm and momentum. But then they realize that changing jobs is kind of scary. Or that exercising every day is tiring and makes you sore. And to make more money requires working more hours, another job or working smarter.

All these things are great goals to have. And people start off with the best intentions. But unfortunately, when they hit that first wall, they throw in the towel and quit. They don’t push through and they convince themselves that their job is ok. People tell themselves things like, “at least I have a job.” Or when it comes to fitness, “I’m not that fat and out of shape, at least I can still tie my shoes.” Sadly, they don’t realize that by not pushing themselves forward they’re actually pulling themselves backwards. Because nothing stays the same. You’re either improving your life or worsening it. Complacency is no way to live. When you give up, you tend to beat yourself up. And you don’t need to do that because there are plenty of people out there willing to do that for you.

Decide what area or areas of life you want to improve and start improving them. Just realize it’s not going to be easy. But when you push yourself to that next level you’re going to feel incredibly satisfied and proud of yourself. And believe me, there’s going to be many times that you’re going to have to push through to get the result(s) you’re after.
